The Road to Nationals...

The Road to Nationals

I am preparing to go to my first out-of-state trip as the head coach of my program. I have gone on other cheer trips in the past but always as an assistant coach. Not as the “buck stops here” coach.

I think I have everything ready, but I’m old enough and experienced enough to know that I don’t know what I don’t know. I’m a planner, but I can’t plan for every possible contingency when I haven’t a clue what those contingencies might be.

We had our off-to-Nationals meeting last night and that went well. Thank heavens for Jessii Stevens, head coach of Mt. Si High School Cheer who let me borrow off her Nationals info packet (she’s a vet at going to Nationals). Thank heavens for the parents who brought up things I didn’t even think of that now need to be added to the info packet.

And thank heavens for my dear assistant coach, who is not only coming on this trip on her own dime, but said “I have a high credit limit on my credit card too,” after I voiced the same sentiment as the sum total of my “back-up plan.”

Look for next month’s post…Nationals Results!

The Eastside Dream Elite cheerleading program is associated with Renton Parks, Kirkland Parks, and Issaquah Parks. Try-outs are not required for any EDE teams, and all teams are non-competitive except for Red Squad.  We work hard to keep costs low for EDE participants.  Scholarships for class fees are available from the respective organizations for residents who qualify.  Uniform fees are not covered by those scholarships, however we make every effort to help those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to participate.
